Authority (227)

I believe the song Candyman from Willie Wonka was written by Gene Wilder and then sold to Sammy Davis, Jr. when Wilder's version didn't sell. (Kind of like "Young Love" by Tab Hunter, that was sold to Sonny James!)

It was written by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley specifically for the film. It was sang by the candy store owner/clerk in the movie. The most popular cover of the song of course was done by Sammy Davis, Jr.
