It depends on which month your $50 EE savings bond was issued. If it was issued in January it is worth $89.14, if it was issued in December it is worth $77.04.

You can find the value using the US Treasury's savings bond calculator at:

In order to find out that paper value of your 1986 $50 EE series bond you need to visit the online bond calculator found at the US treasury website. When you access the calculator input the bond serial number and exact month the bond was issued. As modough has pointed out your bond will be worth a different amount depending on what month it was issued.

If your 1986 $50 EE series savings bond was issued in June it will be worth $87.40 as of 1st November 2009.
