This is a Blue Law. A Blue law was put into place because of religious beliefs. Most of the blue laws affect what is known as the bible belt. There isn't a set boundery of the bible belt but most believe it emcompasses Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia, North and South Carolina, and into Virginia.
The blue laws were created to enforce moral standards such as observing sunday as the sabbath, a time of rest. This is why in some states you can not buy work tools. Even though most of the laws have been repealed and declared unconsitiutional some still exist. The number one law that exist is the prohibited sale of alcholic beverages. Different States have different rules.
Here in Florida you can only buy beer after 12pm on Sundays. When my friend lived right above the Georgia border she would drive down to Jacksonville Florida to buy beer. She worked saturdays so Sunday was her Saturday and she liked to party.
In Georgia I found out that you can not sell alcohol within so many feet of the church. However it is okay to sell horny Goat Weed Pills.
In Florida you can not sell 40 oz bottles of beer, only 32 oz.. I've never drank a 40 oz but I've always wanted to. I always wanted to buy one and drink it while listening to Sublime's 40 ounces to freedom.
Some places in the bible belt have private clubs you can drink at on sunday. You have to be a member and I'm not sure what the requirements are. Maybe you could find one in your area.
