Yes most of the americanized chinese foods and chinese take out we eat today are loaded with msg, salts, and are very fatty due to deep fried foods.

Try some traditional chinese foods that are rich in veggies and fish. Those are healthy for you.

You can request them not to use MSG also (only problem is that you cannot be in their kitchen to make sure they don't ).

If you request MSG it is better. also, if you stick to higher end Chinese places it is better.

My mom comments on when we go to one of the best Chinese places in Denver that she can tell there is little to no MSG in the food.

so maybe just avoid the cheaper / hole in the wall places.

Try a chinese place that has Hot Pot ( which is hot veggies and a sauce) on the menu, or Dim Sum very healthy for you.

Well thanks for your responses. Helps a bit. Will only order steamed food from there, ask for no MSG's or eat there once a year. :)

It depends on the place.

generally it depends on the place. some places like hole in the wall places use TONS of it. other places use little. just try around and find a place that works for you

MSG is a flavour enhancer and can give you severe headaches if you are alergic. It is also found in a number of other processed foods. If you are cooking and want to enhance the flavour just add a teaspoon of sugar and get the same result.
