What is your food generation?

Noticed how each generation has their own "food"? I was making krautburgers today and thought of my mom-in-law. Certain foods make me think of certain people because it was the food of their generation. (Like how a really good pot roast makes you think of grandma). What do you think is the "food" of your generation? Mine I think would be salads and grilled food. I remember eating salads because it was "cool" when I was a teen and I still BBQ/Grill at least 2 times a week. My neighbors think we're nuts because it can be 15 below, snowing a blizzard and my hubby and I are out there holding a piece of cardboard up to block the wind so we can fire up the grill, while wearing snow gloves and a beanie. lol. And having friends or family over is just an excuse to drink beer and fire up the grill. If people are here we are grilling, and if you want something special to eat - more than likely I will find a way to grill it!!!

Good question! I think fondue (the comeback) and sushi when I think of my generations food. I also see more people eating organic food now that we are more concious of the consequences of hormones pesticides and the like.

For my mom's generation - CASSAROLES, I'm so glad we are moving past that. lol but maybe that is because I am from a big family but I have eaten my weight in cassaroles growing!

LOL @ cassaroles. My mom called me the other day asking for a good cassarole recipe (one she doesn't already make) and she thought I was joking when I said I didn't have one. "Nope, I don't make cassaroles. Ever." lolol. Must be a "mom" thing.

Interesting idea for sure

you can also go through phases too in your life.

Like I grew up eating all the meat and potatoes and everything. the typical American diet. grilling a bunch etc etc

For about nearly 5 years now, I've been pretty much vegan, so no more meat/fish/eggs or anything.

I have to agree with you mom, so I am guessing *gulp* we are around the same age ;-) If you can't grill it, don't eat it LOL I have every pan and tray and junk made for cooking stuff on the grill from pizza to casseroles, that's right, I even put my enchilada casserole on the grill LOL We love sushi, so that is a big thing in our house, but there is still comfort food, a good stew, homemade mac and cheese, chicken fried steak and grandmas pot roast!!

One thing I did take from my mom's generation is the crock pot - my god how does anyone live without one! I am naturally a morning person and by the time I get home from work, pick up the little one and get home, I am ok with eating grilled cheese for the next 10 years until my daughter can cook.

So I just get everything ready in the morning when I get up, put it in the crock pot and motor on with the day. Then when I get home and my hubby gets off there is a fresh, home cooked meal.

If anyone has any good crock pot recipies I would LOVE to hear them. lol

Lets see Ruchele... You have a daughter the same age I was when I had my first son. My 2 boys are 8 years apart. When my oldest boy is 16 I will be halfway to 66. My youngest boy will be 16 in 2022. Are we about the same age???
Maybe the grill is a generation bridge instead of a gap? - You did say you make cassarole on the grill (see Jodi's post).... LOL

I couldn't decide who to pick so I resorted to the scientific method - "Einie Menie Minie Moe..."
