Oil and Grease

We all know we aren't supposed to pour bacon grease and oil down the sink, but do you do it anyway? Do you ever say "screw it" - turn on the hot water and garbage disposal and do it anyway? I'm guilty... (I usually get worried and pour half a bottle of draino down a few days later to make up for it though ;-)

Save your bacon grease in a bowl & put in refrig. Next time you need to make gravy, bacon grease is perfect to use. Also, I also teaspoon of bacon grease to can of green beans when cooking, adds more flavoring to those bland tasting beans. As for oil, I never pour it down drain, I save it to make gravy to pour over my dogs food, only about once a week, though.

Nobody else?

I do try to save mine too, but sometimes I'm either lazy or I already have a bunch.

I keep old water jugs and funnel the grease into that, then throw it in the trash.

I pour my grease in old coffee cans. My kitchen sink has stopped up before when I used to pour grease and other things down the disposal...but...I was married to a plumber. The last time he had to unstop the sink because of something I put down it that shouldn't have been he was beside himself. I don't put anything down my disposal except water now.

I have done it, I am guilty I poured it down with the disposal and hot water running and then poured down dish soap LOL then I learned that this is the #1 cause of sewer blockages and sewer over flow problems which is not good for anybody, so now I do the same thing Skoolie does, I keep the oil bottles, or use old water or milk jugs to throw it away in.

I use old cans when I have them - but yes I am so guilty of doing this - at least until I own my own house. Don't tell the apt :)

My fiance takes a cup and puts a few papertowels at the bottom of it. Then pours in the bacon grease. In a few minutes the paper towels absorb the grease and he dumps them in the trash.
