Whats your favorite tea?

Hot tea - I love Original Indian Chai, normally unsweetened, but sometimes with a tsp of honey.
Iced tea - I'm a big fan of Peppermint Ginsing for a pick me up or just plain Luzianne (caffeene free) - Both unsweetened.

My all time favorite was this 7 Treasures tea we used to get in Beijing. I've never had anything like it since being there. Rock sugar was used to sweeten it and it had lots of herbs and flower parts. Really nice.

At home, Earl Grey once in awhile. Actually, I had a very good Earl Grey Milkshake once. Really good, except I had it at 2am at Muddy's and had a heck of a time sleeping after that because they managed to super load it with caffine.

What is your favorite you can get in a local grocery store. I always end up buying a box and then I don't like it and it goes to waste

The Chai that I buy is made by Celestial Seasonings and Luzianne is just as common as Lipton, but I like the flavor better - especially if you make sun tea. Mmmmm... I get both at Safeway or Walmart.
I bought those pyramid looking one's (by lipton I think) and threw them away. They were really gross. I usually will buy a variety pack if I'm trying a few flavor (usually there is at least 1 I like)- or if your in the Colorado area you can go take a tour at the Celestial Seasonings factory (in Boulder) and try most before you buy.

I have a good friend who is from Kenya and he makes chai tea from scratch all of the time! Fresh cinnamon sticks, herbs and cream. I've got to try to do it myself sometime, but it is the best tea I have ever had.

As far as commercial tea, I LOVE the yogi tea. I've tried many of them and I got addicted to them when I live next store to the vitamin cottage.

Jodi- You should email me the recipe for the homemade Chai. I've never made it myself, but I bet it's awesome.

You take like 2" of ginger and cut it into little rounds (I think you can use crystalized ginger too), 2 cinnamon sticks about 2 tsp of black pepper (his is a little peppery, I would actually use less), 10 cloves, a few (maybe 5 or 6) cardamom pods and put them in a sauce pan and crush them up a little. Add about 6 cups of water and boil everything together. Then you reduce the heat and cover it and let it finish cooking the spices for about 10 minutes. Take it off the stove and add 6 tea bags (one bag for every cup of water - that's how I remembered).

Then you add the tea bags and let that site for about 5 minutes. Then you add 2 cups of cream or whole milk and 1/2 cup of brown sugar (he said the light brown sugar tastes best). Wisk it all together then strain and enjoy.

It's a tons of work, but it's the best in the world. I kinda found a shortcut though. There is the best spice shop in Dever right by where I used to live downtown called Savory spice shop. They grind and dry all of their own spices and they have a chai blend, so you just boil all of that together and it will probably taste just as fresh. I'm running over there at lunch and will try it this weekend to see if it compares :)
