Are there any stores where you play video games for so much $ an hour

Its a store that sells gaming accessories, furniture, consoles and you can come in and play all day for a set price or you can just come in and shop.Thinking of opening one up.Do you like the idea or is it a bad idea? Thanks for any response!

OK in this time of the world its a bad idea and i dont see making this by the hour when most people wouldnt have the money to pay this amount and the 50 cents is easy to come by , but if you charge dollars then youd lose a lot of people! and i wouldnt open any kind of game room now , !

Honestly, I think this is a great idea. I know when my x box got the ring of death, (which took a month to get back) I would of loved to have a shop to go to to play at. I think that both a shop and some where to play would bring in a lot of customers, you would have someone wanting to purchase a game and maybe before purchasing it, they would like to try it out at your shop, which they would have to pay to play it.

Good luck!

Depends on your locality and how many people play games there,
I would first do a study of the area to determine if it would be viable in your area.

Then check your local ordinances and see what they have to say about "gaming establishments"
I used to live in St louis and knew a guy who opened a "gaming lounge" just for video games and such.
He was put under so much paper work it wasn't even funny. Poor guy had to close down when the building owner raised rent.

Now currently where i live there is a very large gaming store, they sell anything gaming related, buy used games and consoles, and all kinds of nifty stuff. They have been going strong for about 2 years now, they started out in a back room and finally grew so large that they needed a larger space, they got it, and then they started having tournaments, selling anime, and all kinds of things like that.

They do good for a suprisingly podunk town.

MY main point is to do your research into EVERYTHING.
Make a business plan, and i really mean a BUSINESS PLAN, graphs, charts and all.

Also...don't do any FPS games for tournaments(halo, counterstrike and things like it)...they get....violent....and i don't mean on screen. But my most extreme advice is to not go to big to quick, this is how all businesses fail.

Yes there is, in the worcest ma mall next to best buy. it was like f'ing awsome. but the owner told me he was kinda tredding water... but i loved going i think itwa like 8 dollars an hour. i think he was having trouble keeping track of the gamers and thier time. he had pc games too.

samsung 30" lcd's this place was the bomb, i was there visiting.... i think it would be more mainstreem now that you have gaming reality shows on these days...good luck..

I think it's a great idea, but I agree with xed0 in that you need to research the proposal thoroughly and create a solid business plan. There are many things under the heading of "overhead" to consider. Electricity would be the main worry as a monthly expenditure, as well as the price of commercial space to buy/rent/lease. In addition, startup capital for equipment such as consoles and flat screens would be an issue as well.

Also, if you invest in PCs, you can have an emulator for each console you own, and you may possess a ROM or ISO on an HDD for every game you own. And, using the PC to run the games with HDMI graphics output would rock. Better graphics, speed, and overall gameplay quality would be achieved.

Also, if you own older consoles and cartridges, you could do retro games like Atari (preferably 5200), Nintendo, Sega, Colecovision, and others using a PC. I have a Game Boy Advance myself, as well as many other consoles, and play my old games on the big screen using emulation, which is really cool considering they are Gameboy titles and they used to just be on that tiny screen!

Sometimes retro can be fun with some beer, friends, and some free time!
