Yes, the one on his face just looks like an irritated pimple, it's pretty red arount it, but he's only 14 months, they don't get pimple's do they?? And the one on his hip is just red and kind of rough looking, and it is right where is diaper goes to secure.. Both I have been putting cortaide on, and they don't seem any better at all.
It doesn't sounds like the two are related, but coincidental. A rash and a pimple are two very different things, but both can be caused by dry skin which typically happens during the winter. Most rashes that are related to illness are itchy and it doesn't sound like he is trying to scratch at it, so I would believe the same thing - that it is irritated by the diaper. Keep doing what you are doing and put a barrier between the two (a band-aid). If it doesn't get better in 2-3 days and you are still concerned call the doctor again and if they can't fit you in, find a new doctor because all pediatricians should open up spots. You can also try an urgent care, but unless it spread or gets infected it will eventually go away.

When this happened with my kiddos in the dry months, I put a little desitine on the area before putting the diaper on, this usally cleared it right up. Also try using a very mild cleanser like Cetaphil® Gentle Skin Cleanser instead of soap or baby wash, and make sure you are using fragrance free baby wipes.

They can get pimple like bumps, but don't pop it. Could the rash be a heat rash? If you have your heat up, and dressing him heavier it could be from that. Is the rash flat with little dots or raised up? I have been told that most rashes are nothing to worry about unless they are blood colored, have a red streak coming from it or if there is a fever. If your doctor is booked try a different pediatrition or take to urgent care (your insurance co-pay should be the same). Also, try your local children's hospital. Most have a free nurse's hotline that will get all symptoms over the phone and give you advice.
