What are the benefits of Mouth-to-Mouth rescue breathing? What is the procedure?

When a person stops breathing, oxygenation of the blood ceases, and irreversible brain damage may occur in four to six minutes. If breathing of a person has stopped, the victim will soon be unconscious. There will be no chest movement, and the skin will be pale or slightly bluish color.

The benefits of mouth to mouth or rescue breathing are real and well documented. However, the importance in respect to chest compressions are not as important. To answer the question the ration is 30:2 chest compressions:breaths, with rescue breaths done first. I personally saved a mans life with just chest compressions and an AED. My cpr instructor taught that chest compressions were the most important and it was, because the person who went into cardiac arrest is back at the gym.

To answer why rescue breaths are not as important is because although the heart is not beating the blood is still oxygenated and can still do the job but it needs to circulate hence chest compressions.

I thought that now, it is not recommended to do rescue breaths at all, as this might prevent some people from acting when someone needs help. Compressions are much more important.
