Could be Sciatica, I have that on left side too, did you do anything recently to strain this muscle? Also, does the pain run down your leg too? Nothing really helps that, mine got so bad I asked my doctor for pain relief and he prescribed me Vicoden, but I am to take it only when it is acting up really bad, not everday. It does help give me relief. Another thing you can try is Ice pack on the area.

This could be a serious problem and you should not try to self-diagnosis yourself or asking other people's opinions because we can't even see you after all. There is nothing better to do here then seeing your doctor because you will never truly no what it is until your doctor checks you out and runs tests if your physician feels they need to be done. Please go see your doctor as soon as possible because this has to do with your health and should not be ignored or taken lightly. If you do not have insurance you can find a clinic in your area that will check you out.

Basically, the obvious answer is to go to your doctor. It sound fairly serious if you can't stand up. But probably not untreatable.

Sounds like it could be caused by kidney stones. This happened to a relative of mine not long ago. He experienced sudden sharp back pains and resonating pain around the lower left side. It became difficult to sit, lay, or stand comfortably. After a trip to the emergency room, checking his symptoms and doing an x-ray turned up kidney stones.

I suggest you head to the ER immediately. They will be able to quantify for certain what the problem is, and skilled physicians can easily confirm a kidney stone diagnosis without too much trouble. They may also be able to prescribe pain killers and medications to help manage the condition.

At least in the case of kidney stones, it's still important to have them checked, even if you suspect they are responsible for your pain. Some kidney stones need to be broken up with specialized devices or surgically removed. Others may be passed with patience, lots of water, and pain management.

Never ignore your own body. Whatever the cause, sharp pain is a serious sign that something is wrong, and it needs to be diagnoses and fixed immediately.

Never ignore persistent pain of any kind and in any location of the body. Pay a visit to your local ER or primary care physician for proper diagnosis and treatment. The pain you describe can be from a variety of problems which can be treated successfully by a physician.
