I personally think that the weight-watchers diet is good long-term.
Short-term you can do a detox diet and there are many out there from cabbage to cranberry juice. Done in short bursts aren't that bad for you. Ayurveda is the traditional medicine of India and detoxifying is part of their methodology. Here is a good link:

To not regain the weight after you go off the detox diet, gradually move into a healthier form of weight management. As I mentioned earlier I like the weight watchers because more than anything it teaches you how to evaluate healthy food.
I'm also a big fan of trying to shop on the outer part of the grocery store. All natural, organic products. Preservatives and hormones reap havoc on our bodies!
