Bowel problems

I have a problem with constipation. I can have a bowel movement for 7 or 8 days and it seems that the fecal matter collect at the colon causing it to balloon into a ball so as not to allow the passage of the feces without manual manipulation of the area. What woul this be called and how do I explain this to my doctor.
