Can I sue s Doctor for dismissing a long term narcotics patient without cause

My Wife who has Been on pain mediction for the last five years, was recently told that she was dissmissed and that the Doctor was no longer treating chronic pain . She has had reall a bad time with this and has had to go to the hospital twice over the withdrawals, can I sue them for pain and suffering, It was my understanding that she should have been brought off these drugs slowly and in steps.

It's a touchy subject because most doctors simply won't renew pain meds after x amount of refills because they are so highly addictive, but doctors can only go by what the patient tells them. If they are in that much pain, the doctor will try to manage it and it's a delicate balance between treatment and addiction.

I don't think that you can sue for malpractice especially since she took the drugs herself and they were prescribed for pain, but if you are serious about it, you can always talk to a lawyer about all of the details to see if you have a case. From what little I know, I don't think you do - but it can't hurt to ask. Good luck I can't imagine how hard it is to watch your wife go through that.

First off I would find a new doctor.
