Colostomy bag?

I know someone who will be going through a surgery which may leave them with a colostomy bag.

is that really the best option currently?

in the days of artificial hearts and growing organs in labs, i would think there would be a better option.

One would think so. My father-in-law is 86, and after having his surgery 6 months ago, is scheduled for reversal next Thursday. He ranked this #2 on his 'to do' list before he's no longer with us. His #1 was to dance again, but he doesn't want to try until his reversal surgery, so we will do whatever we can to help him. After all he went through, we figure if he's willing to go through the discomfort again, it's the least we can do. The doctors say he's one tough guy, but then we already knew that!

I had surgery on sep 14th 2007. Seven days later it began to leak. I was rushed back into surgery now too much of the intestine is gone. The dr refused to do my reversal. My dr tells me I could wind up with a ileostomy also. I know that after the surgery you could experience alot of diarea. I have learned to live with my bag. It is hard sometimes but I wish him all the best. God bless him
