Heart and vicodin

46 years old, never smoke, dont drink, take lisinopril20,htcz25,zocor20,aspirin81,But also have been taking 10mg vicodin for years, cholesterol is normal, started winging myself off vicodin in last 6 months. Recently 4 days ago experienced elevated blood pressure with shoulder pain 145/96 which last until morning, went to work experienced slight chest pain discomfort with hard movement. Went to E.R. for chest pains, all tests came back negative. E.R. said I was not having a heart attack and to come back if I had tightning of chest or classic symptoms. Next day left work early to rest still experiencing some uneasyness in chest not tighting or other classic pains. During this time period I had lots of stress at work and home with a death of a friend. My acid indigestin seemed high due to worrying and stress, Will stopping vicodin effect my heart and What could be causing the uneasyness in my chest?

The Vicodin will have no affect on your heart...Especially after the many years that you have been taking it...More disconcerting is what is causing your discomfort..You mentioned a very important symptom, Acid Reflux....The discomfort that you feel , could be directly related to Esophogeal Reflux , which could cause the esophogus to spasm...Stress can certainly make this much worse....This will cause discomfort in the chest that many patients feel that they are having a heart attack....I would urge you to see your physician about this and let he or she evaluate you for this problem....This is only an assumptive diagnosis...If you should have symptoms that are severe enough to make you feel you are having a heart attack , then by all means have them evaluated at the ER as you were directed to do..My condolences for your loss..I hope this was helpful..Good Luck and God Bless.
