Flu shot after having Guillian Barre

Help, very confused by people saying to not have a flu shot of any kind after having history of Guillian Barre syndrome. My son, now 16 had this syndrome when he was 11 years old. He hasn't had any flu shots or the meningicoccol shot because of this reason. Do they say not to have the shot because they could possibly get GB again? If that's the case I'm very afraid to immunize him from these illnesses, yet I would not want him to actually get ill from not being immunized. Can you enlighten me as other doctors I've asked kinda brushed me off and were not clear.

Thank-you, V.
