NO this is not an STD this is a human flea that invades the skin clothes and bed clothes and other things we touch if we get this and it borrows under the skin. and bites and leaves a bad rash . and can be killed with a cream . so hubby is wrong. and any one can get this without having sex. !

No, scabies are not an STD, anyone can get it anywhere. Children can spread scabies in school, just by sharing desks. So I am guessing that your husband could have got scabies just about anywhere.
You and your husband (and onyone else that lives in the house) need to get treated at the same time because if you do not treat together, you just keep the scabies alive. You have to go to the doctors and get a topical (skin) cream and both of you apply it before bed, wash it off after 8-12 hours and wash ALL of your bedding and clothes in hot water, even pillows need washed and dried.
Vaccum your carpets and throw the vaccum bag away because the scabies will get sucked up in the vaccum but they can live in the vaccum for long periods of time and with that being said, they can eventually cet out of the vaccum and reinfest your home.
Let us know if you need anything else.
PS It takes days to weeks before you show signs of scabies after becoming infected.

The cream has to be applied twice, 5-7 days between each application. You can not buy this over the counter so you must see a doctor.
Scabies are very contagious and therefore you must notify everyone that you have had personal contact with so that they can watch for signs. Scabies take up to 2 weeks to show signs or symptoms.
Use lots of clorox!
Good luck to you!

Scabies is caused by the itch mite which can inhabit furniture, bedding, rugs etc.but burrows under the skin (as mentioned in first answer) and feeds on humans much like a louse. Don't blame the dog or cat; these usually come from human source Treatment is with total cleaning of all areas of the house with soap & clorox (as mentioned in second answer) & 122 degrees F for 10 minutes will kill them, but done at once in prevent reinfection. You can get sulfur lotion 10% precipitated sulfur in petroleum jelly OTC, kwell shampoo 1% lindane 10% Eurax for personal topical application (everybody at once); malathion (inseticide) will also kill them but this would be for furniture, rugs etc. but don't know if it would stain...avaiable in hardware oultets that have insecticides. Even when mites & eggs are gone the rashes may itch for a while longer due to toxins.

Addendum: You can treat residual itching (after mites & eggs gone) with oral Benadryl before bedtime (makes you sleepy).
