Will taking flexeril calm me down the way valium would at all

I sometimes feel very anxious but I really dont want to take valium and/or Xanax. I have a prescription for Flexeril due to spasms and I am slightly afraid to begin taking them for fear I will feel like I did when I took a Valium. Am I being totaly paranoid?

Flexeril is a weak muscle relaxer. Most people say it does nothing at all.

I don't know about flexeril, but I do know about anxiety, as I have suffered from it for years. I did not like the fast acting meds like Valium or Xanax, because I never knew when to take them - I felt anxious ALL the time - and when I did get nerve enough to take them, the didn't do much at all but make me tired & spacy. I had great luck with klonopin. I never felt spacy or any other side effect - I just woke up one day and felt normal. Good luck to you, sorry I don't know much about Flexeril or what it will do!

I have taken flexeril 10mg for leg muscle spasms , i find it makes me drowsy , but

does have a calming effect.

you might try chlorazepate 7.5 , its calming (a true tranquilizer) but no so strong as xanax, valium.

it works for me

Flexeril is a muscle relaxant, but it does not affect the brain in the same way. Valium aka diazepam is a benzodiazapine which affects the gaba region in your brain, the same as alcohol. Flexeril does not, it may physcially relax your muscles but valium is primarily deemed an anti anxiety drug, is more of a brain relaxer and also anti seizure. If you are maybe having some sore muscles flexiril may calm those if you know what i mean. Hope that answers your questions.

At the most, Flexeril will make you a bit drowsy -- so in that way, it can be relaxing though it is not an anti-anxiety medication per se. Just to let you know, perhaps you should talk to your doctor about trying you on a smaller dosage of an anti-anxiety medication and gradually build up to the dosage you need. That's usually the way it works best, this way your body adjusts to the medication gradually. If you don't treat your anxiety, it can eventually affect your physical health. Perhaps your doctor can recommend some type of behavioral therapy with a psychologist if you are reluctant to take medication. You can learn some relaxation techniques that may help.

No they are two different types of drug, Flexeril is s muscle relaxer the works on skeletal muscle to relax spasmed muscles, Valium is a drug that works on your Central Nervous System ei: your brain and spinal system. Although a Doctor will occasionally prescribe Valliun for for a short time for a centralize sever muscle spasm.Flexeril will relax your muscles if you have a spasmed muscle and it may make you tired but not relaxed,or calmed down .
