Dry nose

I have a 7 year old cocker spaniel. He is active and healthy. The sides of his nose looks like he has dried mud on it. The insides of his nose looks swollen. I have taken him to the vet twice. They have given him two different antibiotics that have not cleared up his nose. they also had me put vaseline on it which did not help. He has been sneezing and biting between his toes. The vet doesnt seem to know what the problem is. They suggest doing a biopsy or blood work. I am fustrated at this point. I love my dog and want to clear the problem up but feel like I am getting a run around with mounting vet bills.

This sounds like a classic case of canine reactive dermatitis, or allergies. Until about 10 years ago, allergies in dogs were a very rare occurance, so some older vets don't look for allergies to be the cause except when nothing else seems to be, while it is fairly common for a new vet to look into allergies right away. So please talk to your vet about this possibility, as well as ask him to consider weather or not your dog should be seen by a specialist.
