Ethiopia Skin Disease

My mom has been diagnosed with Ethiopia skin disease; however, I have been unable to find any articles online. If there are related topics, please share. She has gone to several doctors, dermatologists; however nothing has helped with the flaky(worse than drandruff), crackling, and dry skin. Any information you share would be greatly appreciated.

Having been affected with this during the gulf war, I can tell you it is not fun, and it does have a name, it is called schistosomiasis (SHIS-toe-SO-my-uh-sis) it is caused by a parasite found in fresh water in Africa, South America, The Caribbean, The Middle East, Southern China, and Southeast Asia Here is the CDC's fact page for it. Hope this helps.

I did a quick search on Ethiopia Skin Disease as well and didn't find anything. Is it possible that Ethiopia Skin Disease is a slang name for the disease she has? There might be a more medical name that they call this buy that will yield more results.

The next time you talk to the doctor ask him/her what the medical name for this is and have them write it down so you can go back to the web and look it up.

I know a lot of Gulf Vets with schistosomiasis - many in my VFW post. Not fun.
