It is not uncommon for an injured toe nail to fall off, especially if the injury is in the cuticle. The nail should re-grow on it's own. It typically takes 3-6 months for re-growth. Watch for pain, swelling, and puss. Keep it clean and dry, you don't want to develop a fungus.

I already have bandaid on it, with atibiotic ointment on it to help heal the toe a bit more. It is sort of dry but it also it a bit weird looking ,sort of like a bruise it stings on occasion near the cutical and I put a little anibioitc salve around the cutical and that stops the stinging. Does the stinging mean it is trying to heal more? Also when I shower I very gently wash the toes on that foot and put a new banaid on ii once I dry my feet just to keep it clean already. The nail bed itslef I do not put the anibiotic cream on just the bandaid it is just weird looking.

This type of injury is best left alone...Unless this is an area that has drainage or is sticking to your socks, you should let it be...This will begin to granulate in and a new nail will begin to grow...After showering or bathing, you can gently dry the area and pay particular attention to the cuticle..Try to dry the cuticle towards the foot..This sometimes helps with the re-growth of the nail..Gently pulling the cuticle back will increase the growing process as well as a more even growth..Hope this was helpful..Good Luck and God Bless
