Pneumonia or lung disease

I have had a headcold for two weeks. Started with post nasal drip and aching joints. Seemed to clear up but then my lungs had mucous and developed a cough. Able to cough some up but now the mucous has a bad smell to it when I cough.

I would just said that you have a bad cough or probably the flu due to aching body or pneumonia due to the cough but when you say you have a bad smell from the mucus after you cough it up that worries me, I would said go to the doctor as soon as possible and do not waste any time due to the smell from the coughing.

You should go to your doctor immediately and try to cough up enough of the mucus so it can be tested. It sounds like bacteria or even a virus. That's the only way you'll really know what it is. In the meantime, or in addition, drink a LOT of fluid (like hot tea) and sleep with several pillows so you aren't lying flat.

Good luck!
