A radiologist is a doctor that specializes in performing medical imaging and interpreting the results of the testing. The methods include radiographs, CT scans, MRIs, fluoroscopy, nuclear medicine, ultrasonography etc.. Radiologists are generally board certified experts in this field.
In Western North Carolina, the primary source of radiological services would be Asheville Radiology which includes Asheville Imaging Center and Carolina Vein Specialists. The Asheville Radiology group employs over 200 people, including 37 radiologists in a multi-speciality practice. most people in our region have has tests performed at Asheville Imaging including routine mammography. They are staffed with a caring group of health professionals.
The job of the radiologist is to analyze images obtained from medical imaging (X-rays, ultrasounds, scanners ...) based on requests from the general practitioner or specialist of the patient.
They are trained to interpret such images for signs of fractures, diseases such as a tumor or a lung infection.
Radiologists also performs ultrasounds on internal organs and pregnancies.
