Why am i having lower back and neck pain after hours of dancing?

Hi, I go out dancing once to a couple times a month to various nightclubs/concerts and after hours of dancing my neck and lower back are in a tremendous amounts of pain.

I've been noticing this for probably the last 8 months, and its after HOURS of almost non-stop dancing and walking around. I'm only 21 years old, so this shouldn't be normal and I shouldn't have to deal with the pain with something I love to do.

I'm not sure whats wrong with my neck and lower back, and also I'm not sure what type of doctor is the best to see for this problem.

Any help is much appreciated, Thank you.

Why am I having lower back and neck pain after hours of dancing? If you are going out to a club to dance than I'm sure you aren't stretching first before you go. You might be having alcohol? Alcohol will cause cramping and body aches. Also, are you wearing shoes that support your feet when you are dancing? Finally, next time you go dancing, try taking a hot epsom salt bath when you get home. A hot epsom salt bath will reduce swelling, increase circulation and relax you after you go dancing.

More than half the time I am completely sober, ocassionally I have one or two drinks. I actually go to the gym and stretch more than I did in the past. And the pain kind of came on all of a sudden and its ONLY when I've been dancing for hours, not at the gym or anywhere else. I wear boots with a low wedge or flats, the pain has been the same with both types of shoes.

Hello Strategy263.....It is fine that you exersise and dance..However, one can certainly overdue and cause problems....You have most likely upset some of the muscles and possibly nerves in your back...I would advise you to take it easy for abit and allow these muscles to calm down...If the pain if constant, then you should have this further evaluated by your personal physician...You can also take Advil, 3 tabs , 3 times a day for 5days (unless you have an illness or allergy that would contraindicate the use of NSAID's)..These are antiinflammatories and can help reduce the inflammation ....If you have numbness , you should see your physician as this would indicate that there is nerve involvement...I hope this was abit helpful...Good Luck to you and God Bless..

The pain only lasts for that night of dancing, then I wake up and its gone, I'm just a little stiff for the next day or two.

I actually had Advil handy one night I was out and the pain pretty much went away. I've tried taking Ibuprofen, 600mg, but that didn't work...I'm guessing Ibuprofen is not an antinflammatory and I should try Advil again?

Ibuprofen is the main ingredient of Advil and many of the over-the -counter antiinflammatory meds..Aleve is one that has the ingredient Naprosyn in it...This is abit stronger than Ibuprofen , however, it is sometimes hard on the tummy....One should eat prior to taking this. I think that you are just over working yourself...You state that you dance "Non-stop"..Perhaps you should slow down just abit and take longer breaks....I applaud you for your stamina to be able to excersise as much as you do...Very healthy...Just don't over-do.....Please, keep us posted...God Bless..

So the Ibuprofen should be working, hmm. I'll try stretching before dancing and taking more breaks, when the musics on I just don't want to stop! I'll do it though.

Thanks for the advice everything! Hopefully this will do the trick!
