How much xanax is safe to take?

I have been on Zoloft ad xanax for a little over 11 years. I am supposed to take .5 xanax 3 time a day as needed. I have recently started to take anywhere from 4 mg a day to 9 mg a day. I am curious to know the amount that would be considered an overdose. I am not ready to stop my meds as I do need them with life situations and past situations. I just dont want to take too much.

When you say you are supposed to take .5 xanax 3 time a day as needed, what is the dosage of each pill prior to you halfing it? Did your doctor tell you to increase your Xanax? If not did he approve an increase? If not then you need to call him immediately as I feel from key phrases in your question that you are actually addicted to the Xanax. The most you should take is 6 mg/day, and that is without being on Zoloft. Also, is the Zoloft working for you? What is the dosage of the Zoloft? Why do you need both? You are also increasing your chances of liver damage by taking such high dosage. Keep me posted. Susu
