If i am taking Coumadin now can I switch to Warfarin?

I have been taking Coumadin since the early 1990s. I wanted to change to the generic #Warfrin but was told I could because I had to split a 5mg in half every other day to maintain my blood range.

With medications which require precise dosage like coumadin it is recommended that they not be 'split' because the exact amount you get cannot be calculated. If your dosage stays at 2.5 mg ask the prescribing doctor before spliting warfarin (generic coumadin).

Sorry,I was told I could NOT switch to the generic Warfarin because I was taking 5mg and 7,5 mg every other day and that you could not split the Warfarin in half and get the exact dosage required. I need to switch because of the cost between the two medication. I have no insurance to help with the cost.
I have been told by medical professionals that Warfarin can be split and that the it would not change the dosage.

Correct me if this is wrong info but Universal Drugstore online appears to have generic, Warfarin, in 2.5 mg tabs; in 1mg tabs & 5 mg tabs. Phone 866-456-2456. Fax 1866-783-4223. Site: www.universaldrugstore.com/medications/warfarin
