Is there a neurological link to extreme dry skin?

I have dry, cracked & bleeding skin bilaterally on fingertips of digits 1-3 and on medial aspects of plantar surfaces. Ongoing for 5 years [now aged 67]; sporadically disappears. Never on digits 4, 5. Possible relationship to ulnar, tibial nerves? Herpes [chickenpox] relationship?
