Soma itself is not a narcotic, nor is it a "controlled substance".
The wording of your question suggests you haven't yet filled the prescription.
Before getting it filled, do yourself a favor. Read the prescription carefully to be sure the word "Codeine" is not written on it because Codeine IS a narcotic.
If your prescription reads Soma, or Soma Compound, there is no narcotic ingredient whatsoever.
If you, like most of us, have difficulty reading the handwriting, bring the prescription to a pharmacy and ask what it says - they'll be happy to clarify it for you & even give you printout information on it regardless of whether or not you choose to have it filled there. Pharmacists are great resources - their interest is in educating, not judging, and they're bound by confidentiality laws to maintain your privacy.
The easiest solution of all would be to just call the office of whoever wrote it, and ask the receptionist to check your chart just to make sure the doctor didn't order Soma with Codeine.
Re: internet - importing narcotics from abroad is illegal unless you have actually seen and been physically examined by the doctor whose name is on the prescription. Since Soma is not a narcotic, you can have it filled on the net, but only if you supply a valid prescription.
Having been a practicing RN for 30-something years, here's my emphatic advice:
If you want to comply with your insurance company by ordering your routine meds from one of their authorized US pharmacies every few months - go for it.
But if you're considering finding a cheap, non-US pharmacy - forget it. Outside the US, reliable quality control standards don't exist. You'll have no way of knowing whether or not you're getting a look-alike fake vs the real-deal medication you & your doctor have determined necessary for your health.
At Walgreen's, 30 tabs of generic Soma (carisoprodol) 350mg costs about $21.70. It's common to take 3 tabs /day, which comes out close to $65/month. Not cheap. I hope you'll shop around at other US pharmacies (try WalMart) for a better price. Since I personally need to know what it is I'm taking (active ingredients + binders) I'm willing to pay for it.
Final note: Though non-narcotic, Soma is a powerful drug with potentially powerful side effects, and on several occasions I've seen patients abuse it by taking large doses to get a "high", similar to alcohol. I mention this only to clarify the fact that some people will resort to ANYTHING to alter their experience of reality.
It's so very sad.
