My son is short

I'm really worried about my 8 year old son. He is very short for his age. I printed a growth chart and he doesn't even register. His birthday is August 24, so he is close to 9. His height is about 43 inches. Not only is he the shortest in his class, but he is alot shorter than everyone else. Should I worry about this?

He also is very skinny. Weighing in at 45 lbs. He has had a growth spurt, but not often and not much of one. He wears a size 6 in clothes. I'm debating on contacting his Pediatrician to see if I should be worrying about this.

I am about 5-3 and my ex-husband was 5-3 so I figure that he will just be small like us, but is this too small?

I have been dealing with this as I have a small baby, but if the pediatrician is not worried about this then he is growing just fine. It's common for boys to stay small for a while and catch up to classmates in one or two months of time. If you are worried, by all means call his doctor to make sure he's on the path, but as long as he eats well, and is active he should catch up soon. If you and his father are both small, it's most definatly in the genes!

My brothers were like this when they were younger. Very skinny and not very tall. It wasn't until they hit puberty that they shot up like weeds. They are both 6'1. So its not uncommon for this to happen he could hit a major growth spurt soon. However it may be a good idea to get him checked out by a doctor to make sure things are going well.

I wouldn't worry, give him time, he may just not have hit his growth spurt yet.
