No bowel movement 7 days after back surgery

I am writing for my friend Tom. Tom had back surgery (foraminectomy)on April 1st. He was sent home from the hospital 20 hours after surgery. Today is April 9th. I have given Tom 2 Fleets enemas without results. He is on Colace orally along with prune juice. I have given him a diet of fresh fruits and vegetables. He drinks 8 or more glasses of water daily. He eats oatmeal and high fiber bread.
Tom is a 15 yr kidney transplant pt. He has high blood pressure. He has edema in his hands and lower extremities especially his left leg and foot. His MD put him on Vicodin 2 7.5mg -325mgtabs every 4 hrs for pain the first 8 days
We understand this may be part of the problem, but he has had only 1 every 4 hrs the last two days, and none today.
Today the pharmacist suggested oral saline laxative Phospho-soda of which he has had 3 doses 4 hrs apart with just a small bm. He doesn't want to go to the hospital.
Do you have any suggestions

Yes, the ER yesterday! At this point, "tom" most likely has an impacted colon, and will need physical help passing the stool, or seriouse infection may result. Anytime a post op patient fails to pass stool for 3 days or longer it is considered an emergency. Your friend will most likely need some help from his doctor with this for a bit as it is likely the pain caused in his back from a bowel movement has him sub consiously refusing to go. So please, get him seen right away.

Call an attorney. The surgeon should have warned you that constipation is a common side effect of narcotic pain meds. If you had been aware you would have been prepared with laxatives or at least consumed large quantities of water. Tom could been poisoned by his own body because a simple post-op directive was left out.
