Panic attacks

I have been on anti depressants for many years. I would like to eventually be off of them. However, even lately i have noticed that i can have a panic attack over the smallest event. Shouldnt my anti depressant be handling this to where i DONT have them...? I just dont understand why i keep having them. I am a recovering alcoholic and they all started when I stopped drinking, 13 yrs ago. Thank you for your help in this matter,,,,and STILL an american Veteran Michael Wood

Hi and i think you need to increase your M/Gs of your meds , and you should see your doctor about this some times it takes a step up into the next M/g to help the body and mind and you started on a low dose and went up till you would feel good and now its time to step up again, some times after a time the meds will not work as good and need a boost. and you will not have them again, and take the time to do this! hope this helps and thanks for asking!

If an increase in your medications does not help maybe you should talk to your doctor about an anti anxiety med. Valium(diazepam) is a very good choice and is also prescribed for withdrawals to alcohol

When I had panic attacks I was on Xanax. Anti depressants make you hiper. I guess they figure if your awake you won't be depressed. Ask your doctor about xanax it worked great.
