Jen - you have to help us help you by answering a few questions first:

1.) Are the red splotches near clothing?

2.) Do you do any outdoor activities that might have gotten you in contact with a plant that is an irritant or poisinous?

3.) Are you alergic to anything? (Cats, eggs, etc)

4.) Can you think of anything else that might point to a cause?

Could it be allergies? Did you eat anything new you haven't normally eaten? Have you rubbed up against anything?

I just watched this really disturbing documentary on the travel channel about parasites. Sometimes you can get bit by a mosquito and they will lie tiny parasites in your body. They are small and can travel across your blood stream. They will itch and bite at you and sometimes as they get bigger you can feel them wriggling beneath your skin like little worms. Have you traveled to any 3rd world countries lately?

Uhhhhh why do people start with the parasite thing ;)) Sounds like dry skin nodes, this often happens when the weather changes and the air becomes dryer. Your natural exfoliation process goes into hyper drive, often clogging pores and leaving red sore bumps in areas where clothing rubs. Try using a gentle exfoliant in tepid, never hot shower, use an antibacterial soap such as dial if they apear pimple like, otherwise Ceteophile lotion cleanser, or aveeno, followed by a good dose of perfume and dye free moisturizer such as Lubriderm when you get out of the shower. Make sure you pat the areas dry, as rubbing or air drying can further irrate the area. If it doesn't begin to clear up in 3-4 days, or appears to spread, or is accompanied by a fever, cough, or sore throat see your doctor. This type of rash can also be caused by several types of viruses, and bacterial infections particularly Strep.

Yeah I live in CO and it's the same thing - I get really dry feet so sometimes I put vasoline on them before I go to bed - it's a cheap cure all for dry skin!

My oldest daughter has gotten really bad dry craky feet since she was very little, we used to have soak them, srcub gently with a pumic, slather on the vasaline, wrap in damp cloths, cover with plastic bags, and then socks. Phew..I am glad she is old enough to do it herself now. :))
