Sick pay for salaried employees out of sick time

My wife is a salaried employee and used all her sick and vacation time earlier this year when I was in the hospital. A couple weeks ago she became very ill, was afraid of losing time and tried to go in to work on a Wednesday. Her boss told her to go to the doctor and go home until she was better. He threatened to write her up if she did not. She went to the doctor, was told she had a severe chest cold, gave her antibiotics and strong cough syrup/expectorant. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday she worked from home since she could not go to work. She works from home from time to time anyway so she didn't consider it a big deal. Her doctor wrote her a prescription to stay home until the following tuesday so she figured everything was fine work wise. The following Wednesday her boss called her into his office and told her that he was not paying her for the three days she was off the past week. My wife has documentation to prove she did work from home at least half each work day she was off. Isn't there some kind of law which says the employer must pay a salaried employee their full day if they only work a partial day regardless?
