Surgeons, whatever their specialty, repair injuries, correct deformities, attach or insert prostheses, repair or replace failing organs, remove tumours, correct malformations, ... they are the mechanics of the human body.
Surgeons specialise in a specific area of anatomy: bones (orthopedics), internal organs (visceral), brain (neurosurgery), nerves or blood vessels (microsurgery), skin (plastic surgery) ...
Following surgery, the surgeon will work with other doctors and nursing teams to prescribe medication, and direct postoperative care and treatment.
