That might actually be a good thing.

When trying to lose weight, in addition to measuring yourself on the scale you need to measure you body. like how big is your waist line, bisceps, forearms, legs, etc.

If you are loosing inches and not pounds, it means you are converting fat to muscle (which weights more and is smaller per pound). So if your clothes are fitting looser now, thats GREAT.

What is your workout, weights, cardio, both? If you aren't doing cardio, I would add in as well.

This is perfectly normal. Whenever you begin an exercise routine, you can expect to gain 4-10 lbs. before you begin losing weight. The reason for this is simple, Muscle weighs more than fat. You are converting fat to muscle, and as sid mentioned above, you need to measure your early progress in inches (around the waist because you may gain muscle inches elswhere) to measure your progress. You should be begining your routine with Cardio, this will boost you into fat burning mod and make your total workout more effective. Most gyms will give you at least 1 free session with a personal trainer, (mine gives you 5) when you begin with them. If you have never taken advantage of that service, do so now, they will weigh and measure you, do a BMI, and help you put together a routine that is right for you.

Good Luck and Happy exercise!
