What causes low MPV?

I am type 2 diabetic and my recent blood test shows my MPV at 7.2 which is low. What can cause this and should I be concerned?

The mean platelet volume is an indication of the platelet production in your bone marrow. If a person does not have enough platelets, he will be at an increased risk of excessive bleeding and bruising. Your red blood platlets are critical if too high also because your have too much clotting action. Your doctor may send the results to a hametologist for suggestions to increase production in the marrow or order a bone density scan before going on.

Not sure if this is the best answer as my platelet count is 276 and does not seem to be a problem. My RDW is 140 which is on the high side. My son died of Lekumina AML so should I pursue this with my Dr. I've been very tired lately but keep my weight down and exercise daily.
