What could have caused black skin lesions?

Yesterday I was outside doing yardwork and when I came inside to shower I noticed black marks on my foot, ankle, and elbow. I thought they were just dirt from outside and tried to wipe them off. The black mark came off of my elbow and left a small red lesion and the ones on my foot and ankle initially came off and now have returned to being black. Could an insect have caused this?

Were these leeches? IT would make sense since you were outside, and when you took them off there was a red lesion.

Here is a pic of someone who had a small leech on their foot.
