AAA, abdominal aortic aneurysm, (of the stomach) is a bulging in the aortic artery which starts at the left side of the heart, passes down through the chest, finally branching into the ilac arteries for vasculation in the legs. Most aneurysms are in the wall of the aorta under the diaphragm. Any aneurysm is due to a weakening in the arterial wall from the pressure of blood: If leakage or break occurs result can be fatal quickly due to massive internal hemorrhage. Likely causes of arterial wall weak spots (bulges) are high blood pressure (B/P), atherosclerosis, bacterial endocarditis, family history, people over 65 (men >60), high B/P. Symptoms are abdominal pain, throbbing/pulsating in the abdomen, back pain, though aneurysm can be relatively silent. Surgical repair is necessary with dacron arterial stitching to severed artery or stenting, however, the condition which still can be cured for life if successfully repaired, if not caught early has a high mortally rate & risky surgery.
