I got gas in my ear this evening replacing the fuel filter on my truck. Let me tell you, that was like no pain that I had ever experienced. Hurts like hell for a few hours. I went to the emergency room and the Dr said that in 25 years of practicing medicene he had never had anyone get gasoline in the ear. He scoped it but there was really nothing he could do for it. He gave me some pain killers and ear drops (just a topical cortisone type stuff) but that was it. It was basically a chemical type of burn to the inner ear. He was more concerned with my eyes apparently that can be real stinker if you don't flush them real well. In hind sight, I believe if I would have just kept flushing my face and ear with water I would have the same results as going to the ER (and would still have my $125 for copay and ear drops). The moral of the story - wear protection and do it yourself OR pay someone to do it for you. It's just not worth that much pain. Also - if you do get gas IN your eyes flush them with clean water many times and immediately AND go to the Dr. for gas in the ear, flush with cool water a bunch of times and apologize to those around you afterwards cause you will be cussing like a sailor from the pain for a couple of hours.
