As a health professional I see cases where a person, especially in their 40's or sometimes in younger people to include children that are not producing enough of the hydrochloric acid that is needed to digest food-any certain amount of stress or too much activity after a meal will divert blood from the digestive tract and slow down digestive functions also. I find out for most people a couple teaspoonfuls of organic acid (malic acid-from apples) given as organic apple cider vinegar stirred in a 8oz glass of water or a 4oz or 8oz glass of apple cider juice helps to supply the right amount of acid-this works great for acid reflux- where in most cases the excess acid that is formed is from not digesting your foods (food then will then ferment in stomach area- gas forms and goes up into the esophagus -called acid reflux or relays through your system to give you heart burn symptoms) You need to use a good organic apple cider vinegar -like Spectrum -available at most health food stores-this will also provide enzymes to help break up your food also- if your stomach burns afterwards then you may not need acid but more digesting enzymes - we suggest Omega-Zyme -by Garden of Life. Also if you eat protein especially saturated fats meats-eat your salad if you want one at the end of your meal or with your meal not at the beginning of your meal since the salad greens will alkalize some of your stomach acid- you can also use virgin olive oil and apple cider vinegar for your dressing or just add a litlte(at least one teaspoonful ) to your favorite dressing. Note- if you are having trouble with digesting fats this can also cause nausea -however the applecider vinegar witht will help to keep your gall bladder open so you will produce enough bile to break down your dietary fats. This works fine-most cases of acid reflux are not from too much stomach acid but from too liitle-there are test that you can take through your doctor if this doesn't work because you are producing too much stomach acid-very rare- good luck Note- there are also other natural supplements that can be used to break down fats like natural bile salts, choline etc-however in most cases the information I supplied will take care of the problem- remember things like Nexium take way stomach acid and this is not good since when your stomach releases the existing stomach acid into your small intestine which is normally alkaline the acid stimulates your gall bladder to put out bile to neutralize the acid and to breakdown the fat -then the pancreas follows also by neutralizing any acids and putting out digestants-that is why stomach acid is important-note-don't use store brought apple cider vinegar since it has been pasturized and has lost its enzyme powers and will not be effective- never use white vinegar for this purpose-it also will not work.
