Why are all the commercials during the 6 o'clock news (on all 3 major networks), drug commercials? Didn't it use to be automobile commercials?

If you try to click through commercials while watching the NBC, CBS, or ABC 6'oclock news you will find that every commercial is a drug commercial. Don't these producers realize that the same commercials are on all 3 channels 5 nights a week. Is it because no one else can afford to pay for these time slots except pharmaceutical company's? And then you wonder why everyone needs medical insurance....a pill to sleep, a pill to eat, a pill to not eat, a pill to calm you down, a pill to get you going, a pill to pee, a pill so you don't pee too often, a pill for sex, a pill for the over sexed. What are our children thinking when they see us watch these commercials 5 nights a week?

Don't worry their day is coming. After the Medicare Prescription Drug Improvement and Modernization Act of 2003, and Medicare Part D forcing the elderly to pay even more for medicines, pharmaceutical & health insurance companies got even richer. No one but millionaires can afford the high premiums, co-pays, and cost of drugs so these companies have to be headed for a big change i.e. another hopefully more productive modernization, and without the ability to offer hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes for congress this time. The only thing that will stop pharmaceuticals from blasting us with brain washing techniques on TV 'ask your doctor for' will be no more money to buy the drugs, and that's happening now.

Why isn't this type of ad being stopped? They took away cigarette comercials. Aren't all these drugs harmful to your health also?

It is not illegal to advertise prescription medication, as long as they mention (even briefly) some of the side effects. Drug companies spend about 25% of their revenues on advertising and only about 15% on research. They figure they will make a lot of money by advertising, and they are probably right. Many of the medications they are pushing do have a lot of side effects and are not necessarily safe, but the argument in favor is that they give the consumer some education about new products. My TV is still filled with car ads, bogus insurance ads, and ads for weight reduction.
