Why do i have a sharp chest pain when laying on my left side?

Everytime i lay on my left side i get a severe sharp, stabbing pain in my chest around my heart area. this causes me to jolt up and sometimes even have difficulty breathing due to pain with inhalation for at least a few minutes afterwards (time varies). i am really concerned about this and dont know what may be causing this. i have been researching the symptoms of angina and one of the other related symptoms i have is bilateral leg pain when standing or walking which is releived by rests. i would really like to know what could be causing this and whether or not this is something to be concerned about.

I'm very concerned no one has answered your question yet, but I have the exact same problem when I lay down on my left side. I'm very worried and have no idea what it could be. I pray for answers to this question

You present two sets of symptoms..I am reluctant in pulling the two together at this point..I do however, think that you should have these symptoms evaluated by your physician..As for the chest discomfort, particularly with inhalation, this would lead one to think perhaps this is a Costracondritis(Inflammation of the intercostal muscles located between the ribs). Most patients find that it is most uncomfortable to take a deep breath with this. As for the leg discomfort, I am not sure that these two would be related...This is why I would advise you to have these symptoms evaluated..One can not rule out the possibility of a circulatory problem...I hope this was helpful..Sorry for the delay..Good Luck and God Bless..Please, keep us posted...

It may be a problem with your circulatory system. The bilateral leg pain may have covered up deep vein thrombosis (clot in a major artery in the leg) if it is then the clot could have broken off and traveled through the arteries, through the heart, and gotten lodged in one of the smaller veins in the lungs. This is a pulmonary embolism and it could have destroyed a section of your lung, and when you lay on that side you may be causing blood to pool in the damaged area. Your symptoms sound very much like a pulmonary embolism, and you should see a doctor to find out what the underlying problem is.

I had this problem a while ago, and still do. I went to see a Dr about it and he told me it was my muscles on my rib wall (after he first checked my lung breathing). I'm not exactly healthy so this is embarrassing to talk about but he told me (after I told him that I sit on a pc all day, don't eat healthy or exercise) to get out, do some stretches and walking, eat healthier and lose weight.

I don't know who you are or what you look like but after he told me that I did what he said, I ate healthier, lost 8 kgs and felt better. This stopped when I quit smoking... I should be much more energized but I'm not, I'm eating alot more and can't be stuffed exercising in the heat lol.

I also have this bad like bone pain in my chest when I lean forward partically so I went back to see him and he told me the same thing... to lose weight. But still, unfortunately, I'm still not taking good care of myself... and this should be the time to do it :(
