My thoughts exactly! I need decorating ideas. Any cool thoughts?
I suppose it would depend on the age range of your partygoers. I was in elementary school for most of the 80's, so what I remember best are the leg warmers, rolled up jeans, New Kids on the Block, MC Hammer, slap bracelets, neon colored clothes, big hair, cassette tapes, transformers, micromachines, flash dance aerobics clothes, cabbage patch, Garbage Pail Kids trading cards, Nintendo, Mr. T, Knight Rider....
Planning this way ahead aren't you? :)
I always start planning for a party months in advance. That is what makes my parties so fantastic!
Good ideas and great memories you just listed! Thank you!
The age range will be all different ages! I figure since there are so many young people trying to bring the 80's back, this will be such a fun theme! Let's show them how we REALLY did it in the 80's!

I don't know if its going to be in a house, but it would be cool if you decorated each room differently. Like one room decorated with the rock part of the 80's with posters, pins, every thing really rock and classic. Another room with the glam and very colorful. Things that Madonna inspired; plastic, colorful rings as streamers. Maybe a room that is inspired by very 80's toys. I think if you could make some kinda of paper Rubik's cube thing to go over a light that would be really cool. Maybe have things inspired by video games too in that room. Or even some of the great cartoons. Don't forget to serve some candy for the era that would be awesome if you could. Go crazy.
I love planning parties in advance too, it makes things so much better.
You could hand out fanny packs filled with 80s themed party favors, have contests for the best mullet, silk shirt/gold chain combo, and cross-dressed costume (women dressed as Eddie Van Halen, men dressed as Annie Lennox). Have everyone bring a 45 rpm record that they feel was the worst song of the 80s, let everyone vote and give a really cheesy trophy to the winner.
You know those stand-up cardboard cutouts they use at movie theaters and CD stores? They sell them at party stores now too...you should see if you can find ones of your favorite 80s TV show characters, actors, rock stars, or politicians. Not only is it a fun decoration that adds to the atmosphere, but its a photo-op for all ages! Everyone loves to take silly pictures with the figures - we had a Johnny Depp one as Jack Sparrow at our pirate themed Halloween party in 2006 and it was a big hit!
