How do you handle liars?

So I bought a car recently and of course the salesman lied about a couple of things. no big deal.

but, my question is, are little white lies acceptable to you?

of course it depends on the situation. but, do you care if people tell you little white lies or would you rather just know the truth. seems like sales people lie a lot and we're so used to it we accept it. why are people afraid of the truth?

What I have always found interesting about lying, is not so much the act itself, but that human nature requires us (well most of us - pathalogical liars not included) to justify to ourselves why the lie is ok. Going back to old fruedian theory that still stand today. People want to believe they are good and they will justify lying with tons of excuses:

It'll hurt their feelings if they know the truth...
They don't deserve to know the truth...
It's not a lie if I just exculde some information...
I need to tell this to protect myself, which is my right after all...

I always think the justifications are interesting - and hey we are all guilty because no one is perfect!
