I have a three and a half year old boy and he still isnt potty trained!

He tells me when he has to go "poo poo" but when I say lets go to the potty he starts screaming and says no. I put him on the potty kicking and screaming and he poops then I start clapping and singing him praises for the good deed, his face lights up and is happy with his accomplishment for the moment. Then we start the whole cycle over again he just doesnt want to go on the potty! Also, How do I teach him to tell me before he has to go pee pee? Are there training pants that are better than others? Any advice?

Some parents find that the fastest way to move past the diaper days is to set aside a few days devoted solely to potty-training. Some folks call it the birthday suit method, because it involves letting your little one run around with little or nothing on.

Often, the reason a toddler doesn't take to toilet-training is because modern diapers are so incredibly absorbent. Children who are comfortable in dry-feeling diapers may have no incentive to leave them behind.

That's why an effective way to jump-start the potty process is to let the child find out what it feels like to wet herself. Every experienced parent knows that accidents are an inevitable part of potty-training. Why not use the accidents to good advantage?

A fun book to help out with potty training is 'Everyone Poops' by Taro Gomi.

It is funny and helps kids understand what's going on. It helped with my 3.

I agree with both Ruchele and smom. Keep in mind boys are usually harder to potty-train than girls anyway. Sound like everything, but going to the potty is going well which is great! Giving praise is defiantly going to help your cause.

I like the idea of getting the book 'Everybody Poops' and I like the idea of letting him pick out some underwear that he likes (and doesn't want to ruin) and maybe let him pick out a little potty. They make so many these days. Try praising him for walking to the bathroom, for sitting on the potty as well. Kids this age look desperately for your approval. Just try to make it fun.

Hope that help!

I am a mom of 4. Putting mine in panties instead of pullups helped. They have to feel the nasty before they will want to potty. stickers everytime help. I had one that would only potty on the big potty and one that liked the training potty so its trial and error.
