Were you laid off of fired? If you were laid off because lets say they were closing a department or downsizing you can call the unemployment office to see if you qualify for assistance. Are there any other temporary jobs that you can do for now like clean house, babysit, etc?

You should see if you can file for unemployment if you were laid off. check temp agencies and classified to get a job soon.

Also sometimes jobs withhold the first check to see if thats the case.

You can also look into additional local resources like food stamps or housing assistance or energy bill assistance.
