New spanking law?

I was reading an article about banning spanking and I was wondering what you thought if they made spanking illegal? Good, bad? I personally don't spank, but should it be outlawed or left up to parents?

I personally don't spank, have never seen the need, there are so many better ways to handle things. But I don't think spanking if use properly is damaging to the child (my mom spanked me, but she never HURT me when doing it) I think our current laws, no spanking under 3, on the bottom with your hand only, and you can't leave marks, is good, but should be refined a bit better.

Suzanne Shell has written many books which speak to contemporary parenting, and the unconstitutional intrusion of the STATE into private families.
Her latest book is Profane Justice (revised and updated edition)

Ms. Shell discusses spanking, CPS, jury nullification, and topics of interest
to almost any parent.

I personally don't spank my kids as punishment - I don't need too. On the other hand my 24 year old cousin spanks her kids. She was at the dentist with her 2 boys and was 8 months pregnant. Her 2 year old was acting awful so she grabbed him, slapped his hand and said "knock your sh** off". The receptionist called the cops and they were waiting for her when they came out of the appointment. This was in June and she still has SS visiting her house at random monthly. I personally don't think kids need to be spanked, but the parent should get to decide (without crossing the abuse line of course). Whats next, I take my kid to McDonalds for his B-Day and let them have a cheeseburger w/ fries and a coke and I get charged w/ nutritional neglect???
I think they could find a much better way to use our tax dollars than to tell decent people that their bad parents.

There is already laws for abuse, so enough is enough. dont tell us how to raise our children to..i spank. i truly believe in it..the trick is, to never have to use it...my son is 11. he has had maybe 2 spankings his whole life. one pat on the butt. thats it. he knows i would if i needed to, so he behaves. i believe that children today are given to many priviledges. no one wants to hurt their feelings. then, when disappointment comes, they dont no how to handle it. you have suicide, murders, alcohol, and drug addictions. they need boundaries. everyone does. they need to know how to handle disappointments in life and that they have consequences when they do wrong. it makes u a stronger person. a spanking never hurt anybody. just gets their attention. and teaches consequence. my son is very polite, very well mannered, and very outgoing. he and i are super close. inseperable almost. its wonderful. i think if parents taught consequence and boundaries more, the world would be a better place, like it was when we were young....we didnt sass, commit murder, or kill ourselves over losing a girlfriend/boyfriend. we knew what was expected. and we were still happy children...
