I have heard that this is a myth - you should keep all wood mulch away from the house. If you need to use something, use pine bark. It has less food in it for them. Also its drier so wont create a place for them to live.

Cedar contains a natural oil that deters insects, including termites from surfacing to eat and because it is rot resistant you can put as much of it around your foundation as you wish. It's not a myth or urban legend, it's a fact. They line closets with cedar to deter insects of all kinds. How many times have you herard of wood borers or carpenter ants infesting a cedar forest and here's a little more proof.
