Has anyone identified the varmits as lice, mites or fleas. Put on a white sock and drag your foot over the carpet, if you see blood or little red spots you got fleas. If not next place a bowl of vegetable oil (shallow bowl not too much oil) put a lamp over the bowl so the light shines in the oil. Turn off all of the rest of the lights. In the morning check the bowl. The little bugges should be stuck to or floating on the film of oil. If there white they're lice is not they're mites. I know this is going to sound crazy but before you spend another ton of money buy the largest size of Listerine you can find. Put it in a never been used sprayt bottle and spray the carpet - not lightly and don't soak but use enough to make it damp. Leave it alone and in the morning see if you notice any difference. If they're not homestead the carpet start spraying everything and everywhere. Listerine won't hurt you or damage anything. If a while they're have moved on.Mites live on you and in fibers. You might want to spray under the cabinets, sinks and by drains or water pipes also.
First rule of bug killing - know what you're hunting.
